INJURY MANAGEMENT

UNDERSTAND INJURY MANAGEMENT

using sports psychology

What it is to

manage an injury

Inadequate physical preparation or even previous injuries can have an impact and increase the risk of developing new injuries.

In addition, our personality, our stress management and others can also increase our risk of injury.

Sports psychology can help

In 3 distinct phases

  1. Injury or illness phase
    Aims to help the individual understand their injury.
  2. Rehabilitation and recovery phase
    Aims to maintain motivation and adherence to protocols – Rehabilitation through the formulation of objectives and a positive attitude.
  3. Return to activity phase
    Despite physical approval of return to activity, full rehabilitation is not complete until normal competitive functioning is achieved. Moreover, some research shows that 50% of athletes who are physically ready for a return to play are not psychologically ready.
